Dark Lucy

12th-14th October 2017

Written by Philip King and Parnell Bradbury

Directed by Dave Richardson

Children call her Dark Lucy, the strange old lady who comes to live in the most secluded cottage in the village. Why does she live as a recluse and what secrets does she hide?

All the key ingredients for an edge of your seat mystery- a crime, a parsonage, and a cottage in the woods- this suspenseful three act who-dun-what will have your imagination running wild.

What an incredible show! The Portishead Young Players went on opening night and we were jumping out of our seats!

Dark Lucy lived up to its name, a great story with a surprising ending that was well acted by all. It had me on the edge of my seat!

Karley Hughes

Director and Child Protection Officer, Portishead Players

The first half steadily and convincingly built our knowledge of the characters, particularly of the mysterious and ominous titular old lady. Shade gave way to light in the second half answering the audience's questions in a terrifying, twisted finale. A worthy psychological thriller!

Portishead Players excelled themselves today with their production of Beauty and the Beast. Nine of us from Townswomen's Guild went to the matinée this afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. Knocked the spots off some professional pantomimes! Well done to all of you and thanks for a lovely start to the Christmas season x

Our Portishead Young Players stage this foot-tapping show- animal magic for the whole family to ejoy!

Congratulations on the PYP production:

The Jungle Book was fantastic ….. the direction, set, costumes, slick technical and scenery plus the talent and energy of the PYPs combined to make this a wonderful show.

Shame we were hit by problems with the snow, but at least it made it onto the stage – and it got the standing ovation it deserved.

It was a superb production.

The Shell Seekers

26th- 28th April 2018

Written by Terence Brady and Charlotte Bingham

based on the novel by Rosamunde Pilcher

Directed by Sandra Branfield and Janet Griffiths

A moving story of true love and loss, exploring the relationships which make or break family life

Shifting through the sands of time, this adaptation from the best-selling novel portrays the life of Penelope Keeling. At the heart of her story is a painting, The Shell Seekers, which threatens to pull her family apart. Can she weather the storm and keep her memories sacred?

Affairs of the heart are enhanced by the settings upon both English and Spanish Shores.

Portishead Players you have excelled again. Fourteen of us from Townswomen's Guild thoroughly enjoyed Saturday's matinée performance of The Shell Seekers at Somerset Hall. Thank you for such an entertaining afternoon. We look forward to your next seasons programme with eager anticipation!

I went on Thursday night and thought the action was wonderful. I know the book very well and was amazed how faithfully the play followed the book. Very talented people.
